New Non-Profit Organization Opens its Doors to Assist Southwest Florida Cancer Patients; Naples Cancer Advisors Offers Expert Second Opinion Consultations

Cancer patients in Southwest Florida have a new option to access often crucial, life-saving oncology consultative second opinion services with the recent opening of a new community-based, non-profit organization.

Naples Cancer Advisors has opened the doors on its new office at 3201 Tamiami Trail N., Suite 112. Consultative oncology services are available by appointment and include second opinions, care coordination, referrals, clinical trial navigation, financial navigation, and precision oncology services, including genetic testing and counseling for cancer patients throughout the Naples-Fort Myers region.

High-quality consultation is provided by experienced oncologists and healthcare professionals who specialize in various aspects of cancer treatment. These services are designed to complement existing treatment plans, providing reassurance and potential alternatives that can be discussed collaboratively with the primary oncologist. Naples Cancer Advisors does not assume clinical care of the patient.

“This unique service ensures that every patient, regardless of their financial situation, has access to top-tier medical advice without the burden of additional costs,” said Lana K. Uhrig, (FEATURED PHOTO) Executive Director of Naples Cancer Advisors. “And since this is consultative services only, it allows us to be objective and enhance the patient’s experience with their primary oncologist by providing reassurance and education.”

The concept for Naples Cancer Advisors originated from the successful model established by Cincinnati Cancer Advisors established by Dr. William Barrett, Co-Director of the University of Cincinnati (UC) Cancer Center, professor and chair of the Department of Radiation Oncology at the UC College of Medicine. Dr. Barrett founded The Cincinnati Cancer Foundation, Inc. in 2018, a 501c3 funded entirely through philanthropy, powering both Cincinnati Cancer Advisors and now Naples Cancer Advisors.

Dr. Barrett received his undergraduate degree from the University of Virginia and his medical degree from UC. His training included an internship in general surgery at UC followed by a residency in radiation oncology at UC and a fellowship in brachytherapy at the Memorial SloanKettering Cancer Center.

“Thanks to our extensive network of experienced oncologists and healthcare professionals, we are able to connect local physicians and patients with national and international cancer experts should the complexity of a case require input beyond the local options,” Barrett said. “This ensures that patients have access to the best possible advice while helping to keep care local and patients close to home.”

Naples Cancer Advisors is committed to building strong relationships within the Naples and Fort Myers medical communities. By enhancing the services they provide, it will collectively elevate the standard of cancer care in the region.
