May 2019 Art After Dark

May is the month that has been designated a time where Naples looks back at its roots and the history of its beginnings.

Palm Cottage and a few other buildings are reminiscent of these times gone by. Crayton Cove was the earliest commercial area that still exists today by the Naples City Dock where deliveries came by boat as it was easier than coming by land, at the time.

Today, there are some award-winning restaurants; Chet Boët, The Dock at Crayton Cove, Bleu Provence, The Boathouse, Cove Inn Café, You’ve Got It Coming and Napoli On the Bay, as well as some charming small businesses and galleries; Naples Ships Store, Phil Fisher Gallery, Random Acts of Art, Pure Design, Brigadoon and Guess-Fisher Gallery.

The Cove Inn and many independent charter boat services on the dock round out this unique historical section of Old Naples.

Traffic is slower this time of the year making it a great time to visit areas like this.

Saturday May 11th Crayton Cove features the “43rd Annual Great Dock Canoe Race”, themed “Heroes and Villains”, during the day and “Art After Dark” from 6 to 9 PM, in the evening, where the galleries offer live music performed by Michael Colligan & Friends, while viewing some of the artists’ newest works.

The Galleries of Crayton Cove are a group of galleries representing professional artists in our community in Old Naples by the Bay, all within a one-block walk, where 8th St. S. & 12th Ave. S. meet at the flagpole.
