CARING FOR THE YOUNGEST OF EYES

Dr Carla Osigian Probst

Bascom Palmer Eye Institute welcomed Dr. Carla Osigian Probst to the fulltime faculty at Bascom Palmer Eye Institute Naples in August. Dr. Osigian is an ophthalmologist who specializes in pediatric ophthalmology and pediatric and adult strabismus. She completed her medical degree at University of Panama Medical School in Panama City, an internationally recognized 6 year MD program.

She then completed two years of transitional internship in Santo Tomas Hospital and Rafael Estevez Hospital, after which she was awarded the Intern of the Year Award. Subsequently she completed her Ophthalmology Residency in Santo Tomas Hospital, affiliated with University of Panama, where she received the awards of Chief Resident and Academic Excellence Award.

During her residency, Dr. Osigian became very interested in the evaluation and management of pediatric eye diseases and strabismus, which led her to pursue a fellowship in pediatric ophthalmology. She completed a two year clinical fellowship in Pediatric Ophthalmology and Strabismus at Bascom Palmer Eye Institute in Miami, which has consistently been ranked as the top eye hospital by U.S. News & World Report for the past seventeen years. Dr. Osigian is now an Assistant Professor of Clinical Ophthalmology at Bascom Palmer Eye Institute, University of Miami, and practices full time at the BPEI Naples satellite. Her scope of practice includes pediatric ophthalmology, amblyopia, pediatric cataracts, pediatric and adult strabismus, and comprehensive
ophthalmology.

Recently, Dr. Osigian and Dr. Stephen Schwartz paid a visit to the Boys & Girls Club of Collier County and presented the fifth graders with protective  eye goggles. Over 100,000 sports related eye injuries happen each
year in various youth athletics but if wearing protective eye wear, 90% of all eye injuries can be prevented.
Dr. Osigian will continue to be an advocate for eye safety in our community and particularly in educating  our youth.

Beyond her career as an ophthalmologist, Dr. Osigian is fluent in both English and Spanish, loves to read and enjoys all sorts of outdoor activities including boating, camping and hiking. Traveling is an enormous part of her life and she loves exploring and experiencing different cultures. A necessary of hers on the weekends – delicious brunch. A must have. For more information visit bascompalmer.org or call us at 239.659.3937
