LEGEND SUGAR RAY LEONARD TO SPEAK AT PARKINSON’S ASSOCIATION EVENT

BOXING LEGEND SUGAR RAY LEONARD TO SPEAK AT PARKINSON’S ASSOCIATION OF SWFL’S EVENT AT THE NAPLES GRANDE BEACH RESORT ON MARCH 7, 2024

The Parkinson’s Association of Southwest Florida is thrilled to announce that legendary boxing champion Sugar Ray Leonard will be the guest speaker at the upcoming fundraising event, “A Step Forward: Overcoming Obstacles.” This inspirational speaker-luncheon event that includes a live auction with exclusive travel opportunities, is set to take place on Thursday, March 7, 2024, at the exquisite Naples Grande Beach Resort located at 475 Seagate Drive, Naples, Florida 34103. The program will begin at 11:30 AM. The PASWFL presents the event to raise funds for the programs and services they provide to the more than 7,000 people in Collier and Southern Lee County diagnosed with Parkinson’s Disease (PD).

One of the most enthralling sports figures of our time, Sugar Ray Leonard exemplifies the spirit of overcoming obstacles that so many in our Southwest Florida community with Parkinson’s Disease (PD) face. Leonard’s insights into overcoming life’s challenges, both in and out of the ring, will provide invaluable inspiration to attendees. After winning a gold medal in boxing at the 1976 Olympic Games, he turned professional to help his family defer mounting medical bills incurred because of his father’s illness. During his twenty-year professional career, Leonard won world titles in the welterweight, junior middleweight, super middleweight, and light heavyweight divisions. He was the first boxer to win world titles in five different weight classes, a record that stands to this day.

Executive Director of the PASWFL

“We’re extremely honored to have legendary sports icon Sugar Ray Leonard share his inspiring story at our signature fundraising event this year,” said Mary C. Schoeffel, CFRE, Executive Director of the PASWFL.  “As a champion who has overcome many obstacles in his life, Sugar Ray Leonard exemplifies the fight so many members of our Southwest Florida community with PD face each day. While the search for treatments and a cure for PD continues, the funds from this event support the services we provide locally in Collier and Southern Lee County to help those in our community with PD to live well.”
