It is not often that a family-held business like John R. Wood Properties goes outside to find an executive vice president. Indeed, it has been over 20 years since it named veteran Realtor Dottie Babcock to her current position of chief operating officer.
But earlier this month, Phil Wood, president of the company, announced that Mark Bardo would join the Executive Committee to help oversee day-to-day operations of the company. It is the rapid growth in sales achieved by the firm that has led to the need for a new position.
Bardo comes with some impressive credentials.
Hailing from the suburban New York city area, he has over 28 years in residential real estate, the last 17 years as vice president and regional manager at powerhouse Allen Tate Realtors in Charlotte, NC., another family firm.
He also served as director of relocation at Watson Realty, Orlando, and as executive vice president of an independent brokerage in the New York and Connecticut area.
So what will Mr. Bardo do at John R. Wood?
“Help run the company,” said Dottie. “In addition to serving as executive vice president, Mark is also director of sales, so he’ll be in charge of 300 agents working out of our 14 offices from Sanibel to Marco.”
Added Phil, “Mark brings exactly the kind of independent, family-run real estate experience we look for in all of our managers. He is being well-received by everyone in the company and soon that greeting will extend beyond via his commitment to the community and through his many interests.”
One of those interests is recreational boating. (Bardo is past commodore of the Penninsula Yacht Club of Lake Norman, NC). “I’ve heard we have a much larger lake around here somewhere,” he said. “I’m looking forward to spending time on it once I get settled into my new position and my wife, Mary Beth, and I get settled in our new home.”
