It’s as Clear as Black and White

by Clay Cox Owner/President

Over the years there is one design theme that seems to consistently make a comeback and that is the black and white theme. On the bottom of the page, you will see a kitchen that we recently photographed after almost a year of planning, building, installing and final attention to details. And it is a beautiful kitchen to behold.

It is important for you to know how lucky we were to have homeowners who had this vision and allowed us to fulfill it to the tiniest detail. Let me describe some of those details to you.

First, this kitchen is not black and white as I alluded to in the title. There is much more to it than that. We used a shade of black that leans more to charcoal so that we didn’t have the stark contrast that a true black would have given the overall appearance. However, the white we used is as white as can be. There are no hidden shades of color in the white as there can be with most whites. Add to that the marble floors, countertops, and backsplash and you have a kitchen that screams elegant the moment you lay eyes on it.

The colors in the design have significance by themselves. The charcoal you see on the right in the forefront of the photo was chosen to visually separate that area from the rest of the kitchen because it is the bar area of this great room style home. We even increased the depth of that area to further have it stand out from the rest of that linear wall of cabinetry. We added stainless steel lift-up doors to house the libations and we lit the interior of those cabinets which have painted white interiors.

Looking past the dual islands you certainly have a second feature wall with the huge stainless-steel hood being the focal point. Once again, this idea was driven by the homeowners, and we were happy to help make it a reality. The island in the forefront is designed for seating and although the seats are not spread-out in the photo it seats people on three of the four sides. The island closest to the hood is the working island with sink, waste, recycling, dishwashers and still more storage. All in all, this home is something to see. It’s a lot like living in a dream. In this case our client’s dream.

Enjoy your remodel!
