This is the time of the year that it becomes more obvious that Naples isn’t “the Naples we knew years ago.” Numerous automobiles fill the roads, lines get longer at favorite restaurants, outdoor art shows are happening every weekend and many other events are occurring at the same time and vying for attendance. Naples has almost become unrecognizable to those that have been living or visiting here for years.

It’s nice to know that there are still places here that offer a taste of “times gone by” and remind us why we moved here years ago. Some such places are The Collier County Museums, Palm Cottage, The Old Smallwood’s Store and an event that happens once a year at the Clay Place called “5 Painters & A Potter” which features six current Naples artists that each have been living and creating art in this area for 36 to 46 years. It offers the opportunity to meet and purchase directly from Jim Rice, Phil Fisher, Paul Arsenault, Natalie Guess, Tara O’Neill and Rick Wobbe at 1555 Shadowlawn Drive off of Davis Blvd. on Sunday March 19th from 11 a.m. – 5 p.m. at the Clay Place, an oasis of culture. Captain Joe and The Bottomfeeders will provide live music throughout the day, for the enjoyment of all.

Crayton Cove is also a “throw-back” that is still alive with activity, on a daily basis. It’s the “shopping district” located by the City Dock that still offers the feel of what Naples used to be. It’s a great place to stroll the many galleries and shops and catch a bite at one of Naples’ best restaurants. If looking for something to do on the second Saturday of each month, the Galleries of Crayton Cove host “Art After Dark,” when all of the businesses are open and some of the galleries offer live music to enjoy while viewing their newest pieces of art, created by over 30 area artists. This is a professional artist community in Old Naples by the Bay, all within a one-block walk. Art After Dark is on Saturday March 11th, from 6 – 9 p.m.
