THE PARKINSON’S ASSOCIATION OF SOUTHWEST FLORIDA ANNOUNCE THE APPOINTMENT OF THEIR NEW EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR MARY C. SCHOEFFEL
Schoeffel Steps-In Just in Time to Lead their 22nd Annual Walk on February 13, 2021
The Board of Directors of the Parkinson’s Association of Southwest Florida (SWFL) announces the appointment of Mary C, Schoeffel as the new Executive Director of the Parkinson’s Association of SWFL. Schoeffel assumes the position just in time for the Parkinson’s Association of SWFL’s 22nd Annual Step-Up for Parkinson’s Walk, which will take place on February 13, 2021, from 9:00 am-Noon. This year, the walk offers the option of joining in-person at Baker Park in Naples or to walk virtually and enjoy the live activities online. This event provides an opportunity to raise awareness and funds that directly benefit more than 8,000 members of our community who are diagnosed with Parkinson’s Disease (PD) in Collier County, and more than 11,000 in Lee County.
“We are thrilled to have Mary as our new executive director,” said Bill Morgan, Board Chair of the Parkinson’s Association of SWFL. “She brings with her a remarkably strong background as a Certified Professional Fundraising Executive, in addition to a wealth of knowledge and experience in successfully leading non-profit human services and arts organizations. We believe Mary will provide the leadership and direction to build on the enormous growth our organization has experienced over the past few years.”
Schoeffel holds a B.A. and M.A. from Loyola University Chicago and an M.B.A. in Finance from the University of Dallas. She worked as the Development Director for a human services organization that assisted the homeless in Dallas before advancing to the Texas Discovery Gardens where she served as the executive director for five years. She extended her expertise to benefit the Susan G. Komen organization where she served as a regional support director and manager providing strategic, development, and operations support to the affiliate network. Most recently, Mary served as the development director for CROW, a wildlife rehabilitation, education, and research organization in Sanibel, Florida.
“I’m excited for the opportunity to build on the tremendous work the staff, board, and volunteers have done to serve the thousands of people here in Southwest Florida diagnosed with Parkinson’s Disease (PD) and other neurodegenerative disorders,” said Schoeffel. “With one of the largest Parkinson’s populations in the country, and with no cure in sight, it’s critical that we continue to meet the growing need to help our community members and to help them live well with PD by providing proven and effective programs and services that enrich, empower, educate, and support them. I’m thrilled to be able to help the organization expand to serve this exponentially growing population.”
