Seahorse Dream Project

Making Childhood Dreams Become Lifetime Reality

seahorse-dreams-1Seahorses and kids: it’s a winning combination, but it’s even more special when they become the cornerstone of a project to improve children’s healthcare in southwest Florida.

The Seahorse Dream, a not-for-profit fundraising public art project, is designed to help raise funds to construct the New Golisano Children’s Hospital of Southwest Florida, which will be the only acute care hospital between Tampa and Miami that is dedicated to children’s serious health conditions.

Sponsorships are needed for the five-foot tall seahorse statues that will be creatively painted or decorated by a group of local artists and prominently displayed throughout Collier, Charlotte, Glades, Hendry, and Lee counties.

The Seahorse Dream Project began in March and will end with an auction of select seahorses at a gala dinner at the Sanibel Harbour Resort on March 7th, 2014.

The Seahorse Dream project is being guided by a steering committee of six volunteers working through the not-for-profit Lee Memorial Health System Foundation.

According to Jack Thomas, a member of the steering committee, “Because it takes money to provide for the quality healthcare our children deserve, the Seahorse Dream Team needs help now from residents throughout southwest Florida. The Seahorse Dream Team’s goal is to sell 50 seahorses before next March. Funds raised will be matched by a generous donation from Mr. B. Thomas Golisano.”

The Golisano Children’s Hospital of Southwest Florida will bring facilities to the five county area dedicated strictly to handle children’s health care. The new 128 bed hospital will feature pediatric services including emergency care, pediatric pharmacy, neonatal intensive care, medical/surgical, hematology/oncology, rehabilitation, and extended care. The new facility will be part of the Lee Memorial Health System with ground-breaking expected to be in late 2013 and completion in early 2017.

The group is seeking individuals and organizations to sponsor one or more seahorses.
