SEACREST COUNTRY DAY SCHOOL NAMES TURNER AS DIRECTOR OF VOLLEYBALL, BUILDING UPON HISTORICALLY STRONG PROGRAM

Seacrest Country Day School, a college-preparatory institution serving students from early learning through 12th grade, is proud to announce nationally accomplished volleyball leader Tyra Turner as its new Director of Volleyball, guiding one of the school’s historically strong athletic programs beginning in 2026-27.

A native of Fort Myers Beach, Turner currently serves as Seacrest’s Head of Lower School. In her expanded role, she brings an exceptional depth of experience and takes over a program that has long been a point of pride for the Stingray community, with a tradition of excellence that includes multiple state championships and a history of competitive success.

Turner’s appointment marks an exciting next chapter for the highly decorated program. Her background spans elite collegiate competition, national team play, coaching education, and leadership within USA Volleyball, positioning her to help honor Seacrest Volleyball’s championship legacy while continuing to elevate the program across all levels.

“Seacrest Volleyball has long been recognized for its strength, culture and achievement, and Tyra is uniquely equipped to carry that tradition forward,” said Dr. Dennis Chapman, Head of School. “Her volleyball resume is extraordinary, but what makes this especially exciting is the combination of elite athletic experience and student-centered leadership she brings to this role. She understands what it takes to compete at the highest levels and understands how to develop young people with purpose, confidence and character.”

Turner’s volleyball career began at Cypress Lake High School in Fort Myers, where she was a standout player and still holds most of the volleyball records for the Panthers. After graduation, she went on to attend the University of Central Florida (UCF), where she distinguished herself as one of the most accomplished athletes in program history. In 1998, Turner was named UCF’s Female Athlete of the Year and Scholar-Athlete of the Year. She remains the UCF school record holder for blocks and ranks second all-time in career kills.

Turner was inducted into the UCF Athletics Hall of Fame in 2004 and later honored with induction into the UCF Ring of Fire in 2016. Following her standout collegiate career, Turner competed at the national level as a member of the USA National Indoor Team from 1998–2000 and the USA National Beach Volleyball Team from 2000–2012.

Her impact on the sport extended beyond competition, as she served two quadrennials on the USA Volleyball (USAV) Board of Directors and was a founding member of the USAV Cadre Coaching Education Program, the formal instructional framework for certifying volleyball coaches at all levels across the United States.

As Seacrest’s Director of Volleyball, Turner will work closely with Seacrest Athletics to support student-athlete development, mentor coaches, and strengthen alignment across the volleyball program. Under her leadership, the school’s Volleyball program will continue to build on its established tradition of excellence while creating meaningful opportunities for athletes to grow as competitors, teammates and leaders.

“Volleyball has been such an important part of my life, and I am honored to have the opportunity to pour that experience into our student-athletes and coaches here at Seacrest,” said Turner. “This program has a proud history, and I am excited to help carry that legacy forward while continuing to build a culture that challenges our athletes, supports their growth, and celebrates what it means to compete as Stingrays.”

Turner’s appointment reflects a continued commitment to excellence in athletics, leadership development and the student-athlete experience. In her expanded role with the school, she will help guide the next chapter of a program that has already made a lasting mark on Seacrest Athletics.
