With thousands of snowbirds packing their bags and heading north during the warmer months, it’s time to paint the town – or maybe just learn to paint. There are hundreds of classes, exhibits, volunteer opportunities, and more – all happening at the area’s only dedicated arts hub – the Naples Art Association (NAA). So, grab your paintbrush, a few friends, and your curiosity and let us bring out your inner artist!

Classes and workshops for everyone from skilled artists to beginners are filling as we speak. If you haven’t had a chance to check
out the calendar of events, look no further. The Naples Art Association’s wide variety of classes this summer include several drawing and oil and acrylic classes from beloved instructor, Richard Kirk. Richard is a visual artist, illustrator, and author who exhibits internationally. And, Jose Maria Castillo’s popular Portraits, Human Figure & More class will teach you how to see differently, the way of the artist. Students will express their art through many mediums and will discuss how we explore our personal experiences and spirituality in art. The NAA’s ever popular Beaded Necklace with Charms Workshop with celebrated instructor, Jane Mjolsness, is the perfect girls’ night out. Attend this Thursday night class and learn to create with colorful metal beads and charms and grab dinner with your friends after – sporting your very own, handmade statement necklace!

Summer at the Naples Art Association is not only the place to bring out your inner Renoir, it’s also the place to view spectacular international, national, and local artists, young artists, members’ exhibitions, new art trends, community partnerships, and much more. Exhibits scheduled include Ignacio Alperin: A Visual Jazz Affair, which will feature the work of Ignacio Alperin, an international artist based in Buenos Aires, Argentina, who gleans inspiration for his colorful and exuberant paintings from the jazz greats. Also on display, Members’ Gallery – World Piece (Fill in the Blank), will feature the work of artists whose titles will start with “That Day in _____”, allowing visitors to take a peak inside their travels through their medium of choice. And, The Best of All Worlds exhibit will celebrate the arts, culture, and peoples of the world – through a creative partnership with the Stay in May Festival which will present culinary, music, art, film, dance, and more, representing more than 20 countries to an eager
crowd of over 10,000 arts enthusiasts in and around Naples from April 25 through May 8.

Last but not least this summer is the Journeys: Real or Imagined exhibit. This juried exhibition of work by NAA members will feature artwork based on the theme of travel, exploration, and adventures real and fictional.

While you may or may not have plans to take back the city this summer, we do hope that you will take advantage of the slower pace and rejuvenate your schedule – and your life – by adding one or more of the Naples Art Association’s classes or exhibits.
