Making The Move

I went from employee to owner of William C. Huff Companies in 1988; the move was scary but exhilarating at the same time, much like any move or life transition. A few months ago we began celebrating our 25th anniversary and with the support of family, friends and a stellar staff, I think we will be celebrating many more to come.

My transition began when I decided to buy a small moving and storage company in Barrington, New Hampshire. The company originally began in 1908 when two men were hired to move a piano.

Today, William C. Huff Companies is a full-service logistics provider with offices in Barrington, New Hampshire and Naples, Florida.

Upon buying, I could see an opportunity to change the way people thought about ‘moving’ companies and knew I could grow the company if I maintained the long-standing traditional values and standards set in place by William C. Huff. My dream has come to fruition; what started as a small moving and storage business with $30,000 in sales has evolved into a specialty logistics provider with $5 million dollars in annual sales.

With over 40 full-time employees who are polite, careful and highly trained, we now cater to high and ultra-high net worth clients. We have moved households with over 30,000 square feet and provided logistics services for homes valued over $60 million dollars. Priceless family heirlooms, antiques, fine art, and wine collections worth millions of dollars are just some of the items we handle on a daily basis.

The original company mission statement was to maintain a reputation for a tradition of quality by consistently providing courtesy to the clients, care for their furnishings, and diligence in work performance; even though the client type has changed from the early years, the mission stays the same. We want to earn the respect of our clients and adherence to our mission ensures that.

I’m glad I made the move to change my destiny; being owner of William C. Huff Companies has allowed me to meet some of the most interesting and inspiring business executives, artists, stars, and philanthropists along the way.
