THE BEST OF THE BEST!

For true gemstone lovers, there’s nothing like the best-of-the-best in colored stones.

The trinity of colored gemstones are: emerald, ruby and sapphire. They have been collected and adored for centuries. At a time when only the wealthiest could afford such luxuries, these sparkling jewels were the ones to collect.

Of this group, sapphire holds the hearts of most aficionados. And, within that coveted circle, Kashmir sapphire is the one to collect. Ask any serious collector, they’ll tell you that Kashmir sapphire’s exquisite color and soft velvety appearance makes all other sapphires fall away. This sapphire variety is all the more desirable because there just isn’t any more to be found.

In its heyday during the 19th century, Kashmir sapphire was first discovered in the Himalaya Mountains—and found in large
crystals. The legend goes that a landslip high in this remote area revealed the cobalt crystals hidden deep within its mountainous terrain. Trouble was, in a few short years, it was all mined out. No more cornflower blue crystals to thrill the explorers. No more large or small stones to bring down from these high mountains -that was it.

Today, one’s best bet to find them is at auction houses selling top jewels throughout the world. But be prepared to pay dearly for these stunning stones. There’ll never be another harvest like that first wave produced.

Today some of those early collector’s descendants may bring their inherited Kashmir sapphires to the auction block
-once in a great while.

Kashmir sapphire expert Eddie Cleveland is always delighted to discuss his favorite topic, and he should know. He’s spent decades in that part of the world researching and uncovering the terrain which hides the mystery of these legendary stones.
