Let’s Face It

face it 2I am often asked what style is best for my face shape. The four face shapes are round, square, heart, and oval. However you must also consider other factors. Which are texture, features, skull shape, and density of hair? I would like to take the time to arm you with a little knowledge. There are three main types of texture: Straight, Wavy or Curly, and Kinky.

With a heart shape face you could get away with a nice pixie cut with straight, hair providing the hair is not extremely thin. Doing so can make the hair appear much thinner. The skull shape is important for a stylist to understand when designing. Hair can be cut with the shape of the skull accenting areas, for example using the bone structure to create fullness. It can also be cut on the bias to help create layers and movement. Our features change as we mature and lose/gain weight. This is very important to understand, it can even change how we see our face shape.face it

If you have fleshiness to your face shape round layers can accent the fleshiness. At times stronger and even square layers can help minimize the fleshiness, and the opposite is true if you have strong hard lines. Features also to consider are cowlicks, which are not always a bad thing. Working with a cowlick can put a unique signature on the cut. Providing you want it signed.
