dr marc agroninDr. Marc Agronin, board-certified adult and geriatric psychiatrist and the Medical Director for Mental Health and Clinical Research at Miami Jewish Health Systems, will present a two-part seminar on dementia on Tuesday, March 10, at Jewish Family & Community Services of Southwest Florida in Naples.

The seminar will feature a morning session for professionals, including social workers, psychologists, mental health counselors and nurses, who work in the field of gerontology.

This session is designed to enhance skills in providing services to individuals and families struggling with issues related to dementia.

In the morning session, Dr. Agronin will discuss definition and classification of neurological disorders, share a comprehensive guide to evaluation and offer an update on Alzheimer’s disease treatments.

The afternoon session is designed for caregivers and family members caring for loved ones with dementia. The topic for this session is “Becoming a better caregiver: Using wisdom, creativity and courage to care for someone with Alzheimer’s disease and other cognitive disorders.” Attendees will learn strategies to maximize their inner strengths as caregivers and review the “caregivers’ toolkit” of essential recommendations and resources.

Dr. Agronin is an Affiliate Associate Professor of Psychiatry and Neurology at the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine.

He has published numerous articles and is the author of How We Age: A Doctor’s Journey into the Heart of Growing Old. He is a graduate of Harvard University and Yale School of Medicine and the 2008 recipient of the “Clinician of the Year” award from the American Association for Geriatric Psychiatry.

jfcs logoCollaborating with JFCS on this seminar is the Alzheimer’s Support Network. The Mental Health Association will provide continuing education units for mental health professionals. The morning session is 9:30-11:30 a.m. and the afternoon session is 1:30-3:30 p.m. Both sessions are free of charge. Registration is required for the event, which will be held at the JFCS offices at 5025 Castello Drive in Naples.
