HELP A DIABETIC CHILD (HADC) TO HOST “A CAUSE BEFORE THE CURE: CELEBRATING A NIGHT OF POSSIBILITIES” ON NOVEMBER 13

Help A Diabetic Child (HADC), a nonprofit organization dedicated to assisting local children and families who are dealing with diabetes, will host its annual fundraiser event, “A Cause Before the Cure: Celebrating a Night of Possibilities,” on Monday, November 13, 2023 at Grey Oaks Country Club, 2400 Grey Oaks Drive North.

The guest speaker will be Tom Karlya, Senior Vice President of the Diabetes Research Institute Foundation and Founder and Author of www.DiabetesDad.org. Karlya has lectured internationally at numerous health professional conferences and is known in the diabetes community as “Diabetes Dad” for his columns which are published monthly.

Karlya played a pivotal role in passing legislation regarding the awareness of the missed diagnosis of diabetes. He also has been instrumental advising the national initiative with the Beyond Type 1 Foundation that has established awareness and education programs in the United States and abroad. He was awarded two Telly Awards in the Health Category for his video on the missed diagnosis of T1D, plus another 14 Telly Awards for his work.

“Tom has been active in diabetes causes since his daughter, Kaitlyn, was diagnosed in 1992 at the age of two. His son, Rob, also was diagnosed in 2009 at the age of 13,” said Tami Balavage, President and Co-founder of Help A Diabetic Child. “We look forward to hearing his insights about the warning signs of diabetes, efforts to foster awareness, and updates on research being done to ultimately find a cure for type 1 diabetes.”

The evening begins with cocktails at 5:30 p.m. followed immediately by dinner at 6:15 p.m. Tickets cost $300 per person and a range of sponsorship opportunities are available.

Proceeds of this event, including sponsorships, will be used to ease the burden for children and young adults who struggle financially and emotionally while living with Type 1 diabetes. Reservations can be made through the HADC web site at helpadiabeticchild.org/events. For more information, call Julia Reisman at 239-565-6318.
