What makes Collier County such a special place to call home?

Many people would point to our beautiful beaches, thriving economy, excellent schools, and strong sense of community. But there’s another factor that often goes unnoticed until it’s threatened: access to healthcare. Even in a community as vibrant and prosperous as Collier County, many residents struggle to navigate rising healthcare costs.

Healthy communities don’t happen by accident. They are built when families can access preventive care, children receive regular checkups, adults can manage chronic conditions, and seniors have the support they need to remain active and independent.

Today, many Florida families are facing rising healthcare costs. For some, changes to Affordable Care Act Marketplace subsidies have resulted in higher insurance premiums, creating new financial pressures for households already balancing everyday expenses.

When healthcare becomes less affordable, people often delay care, skip recommended screenings, or postpone treatment. While these decisions may provide short-term financial relief, they can lead to more serious health concerns and higher healthcare costs down the road.

That is why community health centers are so important. They help ensure that quality healthcare remains accessible, even when financial barriers make it more difficult for families to get the care they need.

Federally Qualified Health Centers (FQHCs) serve more than 52 million patients nationwide and nearly 2 million Floridians each year. Their mission is to provide high-quality healthcare regardless of a person’s insurance status or ability to pay.

For nearly 50 years, Healthcare Network has fulfilled that mission in Collier County. Today, we care for more than 55,000 patients annually through 13 locations across our community. Our team of more than 500 healthcare professionals works every day to ensure that quality care remains accessible to those who need it most.

Healthcare Network accepts a wide range of insurance plans, including commercial insurance, Medicare, Medicaid, and Marketplace plans. In fact, most of our patients have insurance coverage, and insured patients play a vital role in helping us sustain services for the entire community.

For patients without insurance, or whose insurance does not cover the full cost of care, Healthcare Network offers a sliding fee discount program based on household income and family size. Eligible patients can apply for free by providing basic income and household information, and our staff are available to help guide them through the process. No one should have to delay care because of cost.

Last year alone, Healthcare Network provided more than 196,000 patient visits and delivered more than $19 million in uncompensated care, helping ensure that thousands of Collier County residents could access primary healthcare services regardless of their insurance status or financial situation.

Those numbers represent more than healthcare visits. They represent families receiving care close to home, chronic conditions being managed, children receiving preventive services, and health concerns being addressed before they become emergencies.

Whether caring for a child receiving a routine checkup, a working parent managing diabetes, or a senior seeking ongoing care, our focus is on keeping people healthy and improving quality of life.
