FIFTH AVENUE SOUTH TO HOST A “PURPLE EVENING ON FIFTH”; PROCEEDS WILL GO TOWARD ALZHEIMER’S RESEARCH

The Fifth Avenue South Business Improvement District is partnering with the Alzheimer’s Association, Florida Gulf Coast Chapter for a “Purple Evening on Fifth” on Thursday, August 12. This special evening will bring awareness to Alzheimer’s disease and help raise funds for important research and programs to support caregivers.

According to the Alzheimer’s Association, more than 6 million Americans suffer from Alzheimer’s, and there are 11 million unpaid caregivers nationwide. The state of Florida has the second largest number of people aged 65 and older with Alzheimer’s (580,000), and in Collier County more than 18,000 residents are currently living with the disease.

“Evening on Fifth is our once-a-month tradition featuring live musical performances up and down the sidewalks of the Avenue, plus dining, shopping and more,” said Bruce Barone, Jr., executive director for the Fifth Avenue South BID. “We are delighted to partner with the Florida Gulf Coast Chapter of the Alzheimer’s Association and will be working closely with representatives of Vergina Restaurant, Brightstar Care, The Arlington and Paradise Porsche Gruppe to bring attention to this very important cause.”

The Alzheimer’s Association, Florida Gulf Coast Chapter serves 16 counties with education and support as well as raising funds for research. Its mission is to eliminate Alzheimer’s disease through the advancement of research; to provide and enhance care and support for those affected; and to reduce the risk of dementia through brain health.

Merchants interested in supporting the “Purple Evening on Fifth” may consider a one-time contribution to the Alzheimer’s Association; donating a business item for a drawing at Sugden Plaza; or providing a percentage of sales for the evening. Merchants guaranteeing at least $250 will be recognized in social media and marketing materials and those exceeding $500 will also be recognized in an article in Old Naples Living.

Participating businesses on Fifth will be identified by a purple emblem for the evening that lets attendees know which ones are supporting the cause. For information on how to participate or any questions, please contact the BID office at info@fifthavenuesouth.com.
