Chalk & Chowder

At first glance it’s hard to imagine either having anything to do with the other but dig a little deeper and they are found to have much in common. Chalk and chowder will be in abundance along 5th Ave South and Cambier Park on January 25th working their magic to raise funds for charity. The Pelican Bay Rotary Club will be sponsoring Chalk Art 2014 ” A Street Painting Extravaganza” along 5th Ave South beginning at 8am and running through 5pm. Professional artists and local students will transform 5th Ave South into a open air art gallery with their street chalk drawings. Pelican Bay Rotary is using proceeds from Chalk Art 2014 to help fund college scholarships for local high school seniors as well as aiding other local groups St Matthews House, the Boy Scouts and Kids-Against-Hunger to name a few. The event is free but visitors may purchase a voting ballot to help choose the best chalk drawing.

You’ve walked 5th Ave South, marveled at the incredible art work being created in front of you and now you are feeling a bit peckish. Point your feet towards Cambier park and stroll on over to support The Harry Chapin Food Bank. Empty Bowls Naples is hosting this event beginning at 11am and running through 2pm. Local artists have donated their talents but so have our very own educators and students to handcraft soup bowls for the event. Students from Barron Collier High, Gulf Coast High and Vineyards Elementary are among those students giving to this worthy cause. For a $15 donation you are able to choose any bowl to your liking and proceed to have it filled with a soup and a side of bread. The soup and bread are all donated by local restaurants such as Bistro 821, Naples Flatbread, Calistoga and Brio’s Tuscan Grille to name a few.

These events will allow you to not only give your eyes a feast but feed you body and soul as you touch the lives of so many with your donation. Take in the beautiful surroundings as you walk 5th Ave South, enjoy the peaceful park setting as you break bread with your fellow dining companions and above all reflect on your good fortune for your Life In Naples.
