an ARTIST’s perception by Phil Fisher and Natalie Guess
Activities around Naples are still going strong this month since Easter is later this year. The art scene here in Southwest Florida is as busy as ever. The Collier County Museum is featuring the historic paintings of Phil Fisher’s 53 years of living in Naples, through the end of this month. It is located at the Collier County Government Center at 3331 East Tamiami Trail. April 8 from 2:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m., Director Amanda Townsend will explore the history behind Phil Fisher’s large-scale oil painting of Jim McMullen’s beloved panther, Tracker. A gift to the museum from William Payne in 1996, the painting is an entrance to the fascinating story of Jim and Phil and their efforts to save the Florida panther at a time when biologists estimated less than 30 of the big cats remained in the wild.
At Guess-Fisher Gallery, we are keeping the arts here and happening. On Saturday, April 5 from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m., we are hosting a gallery opening for our show titled Gulf Breeze. It focuses on oil paintings by Jan Ellen Atkielski and Larissa Flynn, and fine art batiks by Natalie Guess. The artists will be in attendance to personally answer questions you may have about their works.
We will also feature a “meet and greet” on Friday April 11, from 1:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. During this event, Larissa Flynn will be on hand showing her technique of painting in oils. She creates works that interpret SW Florida scenes in a fun and colorful style.
