an ARTIST perception by Phil Fisher and Natalie Guess

This time of year, the great weather is why most people, visitors and residents alike, are here in Southwest Florida.

As artists, we appreciate the weather most, when we can paint on location with little or no interference from the elements. Naples offers that kind of experience more often than a good percentage of the United States. The light here is wonderful and is what makes our colors sing. There is a window of time in the morning, around 7:30 until 10:30, then around 3:00 until 5:30 p.m. when the light has a magical quality to it. We strive to capture that magic on a canvas, paper or fabric in a way that excites our audience. The shadows on the beach of Naples are especially breathtaking in the morning around 9:30 a.m. when the sun creates the contrast of the image of palm trees dancing on the light-catching particles of sand. These views of the beach with the ever-changing sky give us a constant painting opportunity for a visual reference of our love of Naples.

Then there are the sunsets! We have the most beautiful sunsets and paint them as often as we can as they display a grand selection of color added to our environment. Some can be dramatic with strong hues created by the clouds that shoot streams of light through them. Some can be a calmer change of sky that features soft tones. All in all, they offer an excitement that is emotional to the artist who translates what he sees into a painting which captures a time in space and a memory for always.

As artists, this is what we do. We hope to excite the emotion within the viewer and create something that can be seen daily which makes someone feel good or offer a painting that something new can be found each time it is viewed.
