A Bold New Stage for Learning:
The Naples Players Academy Launches Full-Time Theatre-Based Program for Students in Grades 6–12
This fall, The Naples Players (TNP) is raising the curtain on a transformative new educational experience: The Naples Players Academy (TNPA), a full-time, theatre-based academic program for students in grades 6–12. The first offering of its kind in Collier County, TNPA combines accredited academics with immersive arts training in a supportive, student-centered environment unlike anything else in the area.
Rooted in The Naples Players’ mission to build community through exceptional access to the power of theatre, TNPA is designed for students who are eager to learn differently, through creativity, collaboration, and connection. Whether a student aspires to pursue the arts professionally or simply wants to be part of a dynamic learning environment, TNPA offers an educational path that celebrates individuality and fosters real-world readiness.
Academics are delivered through Florida Virtual School, allowing students to complete state-approved coursework in core subjects while receiving personalized, in-person instruction and mentoring from certified educators on site at the newly expanded Sugden Community Theatre. With this flexible academic model, TNPA supports students in mastering content while developing independence and accountability.
What truly sets TNPA apart, however, is its daily emphasis on theatre arts education. Students engage in hands-on training in acting, musical theatre, dance, voice, directing, design, and technical production, led by experienced teaching artists, including TNP’s Artistic Directors, Dawn Lebrecht Fornara and Charles Fornara, and Producing Artistic Director Phillip Fazio. Students have frequent performance opportunities and develop their skills on the same stages that have made TNP a beloved cornerstone of the local arts scene for more than 70 years.
“This isn’t just an arts enrichment program,” explains Steven Caruso, Chief Education Officer for TNPA. “It’s a fully integrated academic and arts education experience. Students will be challenged intellectually and creatively every single day.”
TNPA’s school year is built on a trimester calendar and includes a structured weekly schedule that balances academics with artistic development. With first year enrollment capped at 30 students, the program emphasizes small-group learning, one-on-one mentorship, and strong community among peers.
Annual tuition is $18,000. Financial support is available through Florida’s Personalized Education Program (PEP) and TNPA’s merit- and need-based scholarships, helping make this one-of-a-kind opportunity accessible to students from a wide range of backgrounds.
There is no other program like this in Collier County. For students seeking a safe, inspiring place to learn and grow, and for families looking for an educational alternative rooted in creativity, self-discovery, and the transformative power of theatre, The Naples Players Academy is ready to welcome you.
