Volunteering at The Naples Players
When the lights dim and the curtain rises at The Naples Players, audiences see polished performances and powerful stories unfold on stage. What they don’t always see is the extraordinary community of volunteers who make every moment possible.
In 2025 alone, more than 800 volunteers dedicated over 80,000 hours to The Naples Players, supporting more than 40 different roles across the organization. From performers and stage managers to ushers, scene shop artisans, and costume shop stitchers, volunteers are the heartbeat of TNP’s mission: to build community through exceptional access to the power of theatre.
For many, volunteering at TNP is more than lending a hand—it’s finding a home. “ finally found our tribe,” shared John McGonigle, who volunteers both onstage and backstage alongside his wife Karen. After relocating to Naples, the couple found community and connection through TNP.
“Theater tends to create a sense of camaraderie. You are drawn to it, whether on stage or not. We’re always made to feel welcome.”
That sense of belonging is echoed across generations. At 93, longtime volunteer Val Kuffel continues to bring his creativity, experience, and enthusiasm to TNP through performances and service with Readers Theatre.
“In so many ways, TNP is a model for impactful community theater,” Val said. “I feel privileged to be part of the volunteer family.”
Behind the scenes, volunteers like Patricia Puia ensure productions run smoothly, even in the most challenging circumstances. As a stage manager and dramaturg, Patricia has logged thousands of volunteer hours since joining TNP.
“I like the rehearsals and enjoy being part of the creative process,” she shared. “I learn something every day.”
Her dedication reflects the professionalism and care volunteers bring to every production. Volunteers at The Naples Players come from all walks of life. They include working professionals, students, retirees, families, educators, artists, and newcomers to the area—some with decades of experience, others offering just a few hours between busy schedules.
Whether someone is able to commit to an entire production or can only lend their talents in short bursts, every contribution is welcomed and valued. From greeting patrons as ushers and crafting sets in the scene shop to managing sound backstage or stepping into the spotlight as performers, each role plays an essential part in bringing theatre to life.
TNP is intentional about creating an environment where volunteers feel valued, supported, and celebrated. Training is provided, curiosity is encouraged, and volunteers are empowered to explore new roles. In return, volunteers help ensure theatre remains accessible, affordable, and welcoming to all.
“The Naples Players isn’t just a theatre,” Patricia noted. “It’s a place where you feel connected to something bigger than yourself.”
That connection ripples outward, strengthening the broader Southwest Florida community through shared experiences, creativity, and collaboration.
Those interested in becoming part of the TNP volunteer family are encouraged to reach out to Pamela Larkin Caruso to learn more about opportunities both onstage and behind the scenes. At The Naples Players, there’s a place for everyone—and every volunteer helps keep the story going.
