The Winged Foot Scholar-Athlete Award

The Winged Foot Scholar-Athlete Award began in 1990 at the former Collier Athletic Club as a vision to recognize the top senior scholar athlete from each of the public and private high schools in Collier County.

The inaugural Winged Foot Scholar-Athlete Award was presented to Terry Dean of Barron Collier High School at a presentation featuring well-known American basketball sportscaster Dick Vitale. Modeled after the Heisman  Trophy,  the award recognizes those students who excel in both athletics and academics and has become the most prestigious award a high school student can receive in Collier County.

Finalists receive a beautiful award and a scholarship for $5,000. The winner, selected by a panel of Winged Foot Committee members and local citizens, earns a spectacular trophy and a $10,000 scholarship. A highlight of The Winged Foot Scholarship Awards Banquet each year is the keynote speaker. Other previous speakers have included Curtis Strange, Gary Danielson, Tim Tebow, Urban Meyer, Lou Holtz, Tony Dungy, Dick Vitale, Joe Theismann, Bobby Bowden, Steve Spurrier, Chris Berman, Dan Dierdorf, Bill Walton, Brooks Robinson, Jack Kemp, Bonnie Blair, Dominique Dawes, Mike Eruzione and Joe Morgan.

The program is very crisp and brief, but is a heartwarming and inspirational evening for all. For additional information, call Brooke Hornbeck at 239.280.3270 or visit www.WingedFootAwards.com.
