CCSO Prepared for Anything

When it comes to fighting crime, responding to emergencies and answering calls from the community, Collier County Sheriff’s Office deputies are prepared to meet whatever challenge comes their way.

That preparedness doesn’t happen by chance. It’s the result of Sheriff Kevin Rambosk’s commitment to making sure deputies have the best training, the best equipment, the latest technology and the strongest support to do their jobs safely and effectively.

“My training and practice got me familiar with stop sticks,” Cpl. Goodman said. “Without that training and familiarity, I wouldn’t have been successful.”

His actions are proof that preparation matters. When Every Second Counts n May 3, Cpl. Troy responded to a serious crash where a driver was trapped inside a heavily damaged vehicle.

From wildfires and water rescues to solving crimes and locating missing people, CCSO deputies have the tools, skills and leadership needed to act when every second counts.

Sheriff Rambosk is committed to ensuring deputies have the training, equipment and support necessary to carry out their sworn duties. A well-trained, well-equipped and technology driven agency is one of the reasons Collier County continues to have one of the lowest crime rates of any metropolitan county in Florida.

Every day deputies put their training into action in ways that protect lives and strengthen the community. These stories offer a glimpse of how preparation, technology and teamwork come together when it matters most.

Precision Under Pressure
On Jan. 31, when Florida Highway Patrol troopers were pursuing a fleeing suspect in a blue Lexus traveling more than 100 mph on Interstate 75, CCSO Cpl. Robert Goodman stepped in to help.

Positioned near mile marker 108, Cpl. Goodman calmly walked into the roadway and deployed stop sticks with precision. Three of the vehicle’s four tires quickly deflated, allowing troopers to box in the vehicle and take the suspect into custody. It was a high-risk maneuver that required exact timing, confidence and training.

Finding the driver unconscious and unresponsive, with no way to open the doors, Cpl. Troy immediately broke the driver  side window, cut away the curtain airbag and pulled the driver to safety. When he realized the driver wasn’t breathing, he began CPR without hesitation. Moments later, the driver regained a pulse and began breathing again before paramedics arrived. doctors later confirmed the driver was still alive — a direct result of Cpl. Troy’s swift action, advanced training and lifesaving equipment.

For his heroic actions, he was awarded the CCSO Lifesaving Award.

Teamwork, Technology and Determination
When deputies received a call about someone screaming for help near the water, Cpl. Justin Morgan, Cpl. Guadalupe Estala and Deputy Hunter Howell responded immediately.

The search quickly became difficult when communication with the distressed person stopped and deputies learned the individual was likely somewhere in a dense mangrove area. Using drone technology, Cpl. Morgan quickly located the person face down in the mangroves. With aerial guidance from above, Deputy Howell and Cpl. Estala secured a nearby kayak and paddled through the water to reach him. They found the individual unresponsive but breathing and in urgent need of medical care.

Working together, they moved him into the kayak and brought him back to shore, where paramedics were waiting. Their teamwork, determination and use of technology helped save a life.

These moments show what Sheriff Rambosk has long understood: when deputies are given the right training, equipment and technology, they are ready for anything.
