An ARTIST perception by Natalie Guess

What purpose does artwork serve, besides just adding an accent of color, in an otherwise drab environment
that we live in?

As I sit here in this gallery surrounded by a variety of artwork, I feel happy and content. I scan from painting to painting and see various styles and interpretations of water scenes and landscapes that are familiar to me. It’s interesting how each artist, with their own style, picks up on details that create a composition that coaxes the viewer forward for a closer look and portrays an idyllic world, yet a moment in time that brings forth comfort.

I’m offered to escape into the painting, that takes me away from any awareness of negative, to a place where I can feel the joy and warmth of the scene I’m experiencing in the way that the artist was feeling at the time of creating it. Journeying into this visual exercise inspires in me, beyond the commonplace and routine, into a creative passion, one that the artist composed and hoped to share their sincere emotion with those that may recognize it. Through the years, that’s what lives on in art.

This is why we NEED art!
