We Lost a Great One

Reg Buxton
Jerry Sanford was a dear friend; one I will think of every day. Jerry and myself worked closely as part of the group who first started the “Freedom Memorial” that can be found today in Freedom Park. Many more joined in on the project along the way to help bring it about. I am so consumed with grief that I’m struggling to say more. The following, written by Chief Eloy Ricardo of North Naples Fire and Rescue, articulates well the loss that is felt with his absence. Jerry was very involved with North Naples Fire and Rescue, and I was a Commissioner there.
“It is with a heavy heart I share the news of the passing of Jerry Sanford. Jerry was a dedicated firefighter and a cherished member of our fire service family… leaving a lasting impact on all who had the privilege to know him. Jerry exemplified the highest standards of service, dedication and brotherhood.
His passion for the service and his commitment to its mission were evident in everything he did. Beyond his professional contributions, Jerry was a friend, a mentor, and a source of
unwavering support to many of us.”
My father was one of a kind and he is soo deeply missed.
