WORTHINGTON COUNTRY CLUB FOUNDATION
NAMES PARKINSON’S ASSOCIATION OF SOUTHWEST FLORIDA AS INAUGURAL GRANTEE
The Parkinson’s Association of Southwest Florida (PASWFL) is proud to announce it has been selected as a grantee of the Worthington Country Club Foundation in the Foundation’s inaugural year of giving.
The Worthington Country Club Foundation has chosen PASWFL as a recipient of its charitable support, with funding designated to strengthen the organization’s Movement and Exercise Programs. These evidence-based programs are designed specifically for individuals touched by Parkinson’s disease (PD) and are proven to improve mobility, balance, flexibility, strength, and overall quality of life. Research continues to show that consistent, targeted exercise not only helps individuals live well with Parkinson’s but may also slow disease progression.

“We are deeply grateful to the Worthington Country Club Foundation for investing in the health and well-being of those touched by Parkinson’s in our community,” said Mary C. Schoeffel, Executive Director of PASWFL. “Support for movement and exercise programming is critical. These classes empower individuals to maintain independence, build confidence, and stay connected.”
The check was presented to PASWFL by Amy Newell, Co-Chair of the Worthington Country Club Charitable Foundation, and Judy Williams, Secretary of the Foundation, marking the beginning of what both organizations hope will be a meaningful and lasting partnership.
Parkinson’s Disease in Southwest Florida: A Critical Need
Florida is among the five states with the highest prevalence of Parkinson’s Disease per capita in the United States (Parkinson’s, 2025 & Domino, 2019), underscoring the critical need for PASWFL’s services. With PD being the second most common degenerative neurological disorder and a new diagnosis occurring every six minutes, the demand for free, accessible services is immense. PASWFL’s programs are funded entirely through community donations and special fundraising events, without any government support.
