life in the facet lane… ONE Dazzling Stone by Diana Jarrett GG RMV

If you know, you know. Jewelry lovers tell you that once in a great while, a single stone will speak to them. They must have it. There is
something so compelling about it—they can almost hear it call their name.

Jewelry designers experience something similar to that phenomenon when one dazzling stone comes their way. Like people who pass through our lives, not everyone is a keeper. Similarly, we will confess, not every stone is “the one.” But when an exceptional gemstone lands into a designer’s hand, it immediately resonates with them. They must have it too and help uncover its optimal charm. I suspect that designers want others to discover what they see as well. That’s the language of jewelry.

Designer Robin Callahan, https://shop.robincallahandesigns. com/ approaches each stone she works on with individuality. Some jewels may speak to her immediately, so she begins the design process right away. Other stones need time for her to fully develop their complete concept.

Of the extraordinary pendant we’re featuring, she says it all started with a flawless Congo Tourmaline. She collaborated with gemstone cutter Dalan Hargrave to ensure a spectacular outcome. His expert carving proved just the ticket—when she saw the results, “I knew what to do.”

“In most cases my clients don’t want to sway my creativity, so they just eagerly await sketches,” she says. Most clients leave the entire process with her. “I’m so blessed that they just let me do my thing”

Callahan named her original work of art “Azurium,” meaning bright blue in Latin. She points out its special attributes. “It features 8 carats total of marquise diamonds. It also prominently flaunts 3 carats total of rare Brazilian Paraiba tourmaline melee stones—locating them was a huge challenge.”
