Forty-one years ago Naples did not have such a tradition until
the Brennans and friends got together and with the help of the
Dock Restaurant, they launched this piece of Naples history. Debby
DePasquale noted in “The Dock at Crayton Cove: Everybody’s
Kitchen” that Tom Jennings, the Dock’s manager, was worried when
Bud and Marge Brennan asked if they could reserve a table for the
parade participants “How many,” he asked? When he heard about
8- 10 entries, he thought, no problem.
The day arrived - the excitement mounted. The bicycles and cars
were decorated to ride from Third Street S. to Fifth Avenue S. back
to the Dock at Crayton Cove for the America tradition of green
beer, corned beef and spontaneous eruptions of Irish songs. Before
long, the Dock, which was only one month old, was bursting at the
seams with patrons who had no intentions of leaving until the beer
was gone or their voices gave out.
