Herr is a double amputee who founded the Center for Extreme Bionics at
MIT and heads the Biomechatronics research group at the MIT Media
Lab. He is responsible for breakthrough advances in bionic limbs that

mobility to those with physical disabilities. Herr has designed his own
bionic legs, the world’s first bionic foot and calf system called BiOM.
