Students with raw ability and a passion for the performing
arts are invited to audition for the Teen Conservatory.
Those selected will spend five days a week from 9:00 a.m.
to 5:00 p.m., July 17 to August 4 taking masterclasses
in dance, acting, clown, and audition prep. The Teen
Conservatory will culminate with two full-scale student
performances of Into the Woods on Thursday, August 3 and
         Friday, August 4 at 7:00 p.m.

Into the Woods was selected by Hester Kamin, Gulfshore
Playhouse’s brilliant director of education. This fantastic
musical that The New York Times called “truly enchanting!
These are the woods that you want to get lost in, a place
you’ll find buried treasures that you didn’t even know
existed,” was composed by Stephen Sondheim with a
book by James Lapine. The story merges various fairy
tales (think Little Red Riding Hood, Rapunzel, Cinderella,
Jack and the Beanstalk, and more!) and weaves a fable in
which all of the characters enter the mysterious woods
together and by act one, they have all resolved it in a
“happily ever after” ending. Act two is what happens after
the happily ever after. Into the Woods is truly a brilliantly
funny, complex, touching piece that explores themes of
growing up, belonging, as well as what happens after you
supposedly get everything you want. As it’s all within a
fairy tale, there’s a large helping of whimsy, magic, and fun
         throughout.

“We hope that students will not only learn about acting,
singing, and dance, but also about how to start to
approach the work and how to conduct themselves in a
professional manner. Much of theatre is about engaging
with other performers, producing ideas, and learning to
take risks on stage. Performing Into the Woods as part of
an intense conservatory program is a wonderful way for
students to make lifelong friends, develop confidence, and
learn what it is to be part of a true theatre ensemble,” said
         Binder.

The cost to participate in Gulfshore Playhouse’s Teen
Conservatory is $500 per student with need-based
scholarships available. For more information, please visit
