THINKING?
D esigners draw inspiration from countless things the
world over that captivates them. Travel, memorable
life events, the physical world around us, even
certain stones themselves can spark a fire in the
creative mind of a true jewelry artist.
This month we feature jade; an ancient gemstone that
resonates with today’s jewelry collectors as well. Early
discoveries in Asia, Mesoamerica and India made this rich
stone a valuable asset to royalty and influential leaders in those
cultures. Perhaps its timeless appeal is one of the traits that
keep jade in the forefront of important jewelry collections
even now.
We recently caught up with celebrated designer Yehouda
Saketkhou, CEO of Yael Designs to learn more about his
attraction to jade dominating one of his most impressive pieces
in this material to date. His striking jade and yellow sapphire
ear pendants are thoroughly modern yet give a nod to classic
form. “I love creating pieces inspired by art and architecture
from around the world. The intricate pattern of these green
jade earrings reminds me of traditional architecture found in
Southeast Asia,” he reveals.

As a talented designer who understands the female psyche,
Saketkhou maintains a strong sense of what appeals to
knowledgeable collectors. “At Yael Designs, we like to create
pieces for a sophisticated woman who wants something truly
unique. These earrings are classic in their shape, but bring
a cutting edge, innovative twist through the use of rare
materials,” he tells us.
But it takes a discerning eye and cultivated understanding
of the material to pull this off. “Very few fine jewelry brands
are working with jade,” Saketkhou points out. “This is
definitely a statement piece that no one else will have.”
