Holocaust Museum & Cohen Education Center presents Music of Hope

The Holocaust Museum & Janet G. and Harvey D. Cohen Education Center presents “The Luncheon – Music of
Hope & Remembrance.” The annual winter fundraising event benefits the Museum’s Education programs. This year the event celebrates the human spirit through music and art, and commemorates an artistic uprising that took place 75 years ago in the Theresienstadt concentration camp.

Despite hunger, disease, and slave labor, the Jewish inmates of Theresienstadt held onto their humanity by staging plays, composing opera and using paper and ink to record the horrors around them. On June 23, 1944 an inmate choir, led by imprisoned conductor Rafael Schächter, performed Verdi’s Requiem for the Red Cross inspection visit to the camp, a performance now known as the “Defiant Requiem.”

The acclaimed Voices of Naples Chorale ensemble will share songs that tell the story of the spiritual resistance that took place at the Theresienstadt concentration camp. Tickets, sponsorship opportunities and program advertising
for The Luncheon are now available. For more information please visit www.HolocaustMuseumSWFL.org or contact Tim Morrison at Tim@HolocaustMuseumSWFL.org or 239-263-9200, ext. 207.
